Promoting Loudoun County

Through Over 50 Years of Racing Heritage

Our Mission

For over 50 years, the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point has been run in April engaging the best equine athletes in Virginia and beyond and supporting local tourism and engagement of visitors to Leesburg and Loudoun County.

Beginning originally as a small gathering of horsemen and women and enthusiasts over half a century ago, the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point has grown in attendance with each succeeding year. Traditionally run at the Oatlands Historic House and Gardens outside Leesburg and recently expanding to a revitalized race course at Morven Park, the mission of the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point is to provide steeplechase racing in the best traditions of the sport and with primary consideration for the safety of horses, riders, owners, and others, while providing a spectacular day of entertainment for visitors and guests.

Patronage of the Point-to-Point not only supports the tradition and long-term sustainability of both Hunt clubs, Loudoun and Loudoun-Fairfax, but also supports the long and venerable countryside traditions of historic Loudoun County. Both Hunts, with assistance of the Point-to-Point, engage in outreach to the riding communities and support local conservation efforts.

Why Did the Point-to-Point Change Dates and Locations?

Beginning originally as a small gathering of horsemen and women and enthusiasts over half a century ago, the Races have grown in attendance with each succeeding year. Our waiting list of those interested in a Rail Patronage has grown, with some families waiting many years for the opportunity to purchase a space. Additionally, with increasing urbanization to the south of Leesburg, ingress and egress at Oatlands presents a challenge for racegoers and volunteers alike. Our Oatlands course was designed to test the mettle of horses and jockeys, but does not offer the ability for large crowds to fully view the day’s races. Added to these are the current challenges surrounding the pandemic and the need for social distancing measures. All these considerations were important as with a heavy heart the Point-to-Point Committee determined to adjust our Races to run at Morven Park.

What Will the Morven Park Race Course Offer?

The Race Course at Morven Park is the product of many years of careful work and planning and the investment of thousands of dollars. In addition to generous space, allowing for terraced parking arrangements, increased vendor and sponsor benefits, and improved traffic flow and control, the new course at Morven Park will provide unobstructed views of the whole course. A key consideration of this move was also the conditions for the horses and jockeys. The stabling and van area is considerably closer allowing a tighter timeframe and less wait between races. The turf course is maintained by Morven Park grounds staff ensuring that the conditions are optimal for the horses. The move to Morven Park allows the Point-to-Point to streamline many of its operations in a turnkey fashion which should improve the racing experience for spectators, sponsors, volunteers, and participants alike.

As a Rail Patron, Will I have an Opportunity for a Rail Spot at Morven?

Yes. Our returning Patrons will have the opportunity to secure a new rail space at Morven Park. Those details are still being determined, but with the expanded capacity offered by Morven Park, we anticipate that all existing Rail Patrons will be able to have a space going forward in 2022 after COVID. Additionally, we hope to open this opportunity to our waiting list so others may secure a space. We are also working to offer larger spaces for group gatherings.

How Will Subscription Fees Change?

The Point-to-Point Committee has not yet set fees for Patrons or Subscribers for 2022 as we move to Morven Park. Once fees are set for the year, those details will be provided to existing Patrons and Subscribers, as well as those who are waitlisted. Fees for limited spectators in 2021 are included on a following page.

Rail Spaces and COVID-19 Restrictions for 2021

As the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point continues planning for our upcoming Races on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Morven Park, we wish to provide you some important details of how our races will run this season. Out of an abundance of caution, and following the current Commonwealth restrictions on large gatherings, we will have limited spectator attendance for the Races.

Please pay close attention to the below guidelines to which all spectators must adhere:

Pre-registration will be mandatory and on a “first come, first served” basis and offered to our existing Patrons and Subscribers first. Though Morven Park provides excellent opportunities for social distancing, we have many more Patrons and Subscribers than the limits will allow. If you arrive at the gate on the day of the Races and have not pre-registered and paid, you will be turned away.

A Pre-Race Health Screening Questionnaire must be filled out by all members of your party and presented to the Gate Personnel at time of entry onto the Morven Park grounds. If any of your party fail the Questionnaire, you will not be admitted.

Temperature checks and face-masks will be required. Masks will be required at all times when you are not eating or drinking. These rules will be enforced by security personnel and those not in compliance may be escorted off the property.

Social distancing must be maintained when you are not within your designated space. Rail Spaces will be at least 6 feet apart and the space between will be cordoned off. Please do not attempt to park additional vehicles or exceed the number of persons allowed in a space (6) or you will be asked to leave the grounds.

Registration will be based on number of persons. Fees are $100 per person and must be pre-paid. Once the limit has been achieved, registration will close. If you are registering for a party of up to 6 people, please provide full payment and the names of all those in the party at the time of registration. Names will be checked at the Gate.

Your Rail Space number may not be the same is in prior years due to the unique nature of running under COVID restrictions this year. You will be issued a space number and the space will be clearly marked.

All parties will be responsible to take away their own trash for the health and safety of officials, volunteers, and other spectators. Trash bags will be provided.
