Promoting Loudoun County
Through Over 50 Years of Racing Heritage
Our Mission
For over 50 years, the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point has been run in April engaging the best equine athletes in Virginia and beyond and supporting local tourism and engagement of visitors to Leesburg and Loudoun County.
Beginning originally as a small gathering of horsemen and women and enthusiasts over half a century ago, the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point has grown in attendance with each succeeding year. Traditionally run at the Oatlands Historic House and Gardens outside Leesburg and recently expanding to a revitalized race course at Morven Park, the mission of the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point is to provide steeplechase racing in the best traditions of the sport and with primary consideration for the safety of horses, riders, owners, and others, while providing a spectacular day of entertainment for visitors and guests.
Patronage of the Point-to-Point not only supports the tradition and long-term sustainability of both Hunt clubs, Loudoun and Loudoun-Fairfax, but also supports the long and venerable countryside traditions of historic Loudoun County. Both Hunts, with assistance of the Point-to-Point, engage in outreach to the riding communities and support local conservation efforts.
FAQ’s for Patrons and Subscribers
#1
Why Did the Point-to-Point Change Dates and Locations?
Beginning originally as a small gathering of horsemen and women and enthusiasts over half a century ago, the Races have grown in attendance with each succeeding year. Our waiting list of those interested in a Rail Patronage has grown, with some families waiting many years for the opportunity to purchase a space. Additionally, with increasing urbanization to the south of Leesburg, ingress and egress at Oatlands presents a challenge for racegoers and volunteers alike. Our Oatlands course was designed to test the mettle of horses and jockeys, but does not offer the ability for large crowds to fully view the day’s races. The permanent move of the Loudoun Hunt Point-to-Point enables us to keep the racing tradition alive and to expand for the future.
What Will the Morven Park Race Course Offer?
The Race Course at Morven Park is the product of many years of careful work and planning and the investment of thousands of dollars. In addition to generous space, allowing for terraced parking arrangements, increased vendor and sponsor benefits, and improved traffic flow and control, the new course at Morven Park will provide unobstructed views of the whole course. A key consideration of this move was also the conditions for the horses and jockeys. The stabling and van area is considerably closer allowing a tighter timeframe and less wait between races. The turf course is maintained by Morven Park grounds staff ensuring that the conditions are optimal for the horses. The move to Morven Park allows the Point-to-Point to streamline many of its operations in a turnkey fashion which should improve the racing experience for spectators, sponsors, volunteers, and participants alike.

As a Rail Patron, Will I have an Opportunity for a Rail Spot at Morven?
Yes. Our returning Patrons will have the opportunity to secure a new rail space at Morven Park. After careful consideration, the Point to Point Committee has put together several options which we hope will serve the needs of all our existing patrons, as well as provide the opportunity for those who have been on our waitlist to secure a space.
